Emergency Department

When minutes count, you can count on immediate attention from our skilled physicians, nurses and other health care professionals. Our Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In 2008, emergency care was provided to more than 28,000 patients. Our emergency room is equipped with 12 beds that have cardiac monitoring capability and 5 stations for less urgent conditions. An emergency physician is always present in the emergency room, ready to provide needed medical care. A staff of midlevel providers, physician assistants and nurse practitioners, assist the emergency room doctors deliver care to emergency room patients. Supporting the physicians and midlevel providers is our team of nurses, paramedics and medical assistants. The majority of the emergency rooms licensed caregivers are certified in advanced cardiac life support and advanced pediatric life support. Many are also trained and certified in trauma nursing.

Emergency Department patients are assessed to determine the severity of their condition and then transferred to the treatment area according to their triage level. Top priority is given to patients suffering from life-threatening conditions such as heart attacks, strokes and severe trauma. Other patients are transferred to the treatment area as quickly as possible when beds are available. Our goal is to move all patients to the treatment area immediately.

The emergency room is intended for use by those with serious problems of an urgent nature. Persons with minor illnesses or injuries are encouraged to seek treatment at their physician's office or at an urgent care center.
