Dr. Berl Named CRMC Champion
Dr. Seth Berl, an internal medicine physician who has served the community for more than 25 years, has been named a Colquitt Regional Champion, an honor given to CRMC employees, physicians or volunteers who have made extraordinary contributions to the hospital and the community.
Dr. Berl, who is the 12th person to receive the honor since the Champion program’s inception in 2001, was presented the award at a recent medical staff meeting and praised for his service to the hospital, the youth of the community and to the disadvantaged.
“You were selected for this honor due not only to your commitment to providing quality medical care to your patients and to Colquitt Regional Medical Center for over 25 years, but also for your active involvement in youth activities, acting as a role model for young people, and your unselfish acts of humanity to the disadvantaged,” the selection committee wrote.
Dr. Berl joined the Colquitt Regional Medical Staff in May 1984, served as Chief of Staff from 1990 to 1992 and has been chairman of the ICU/Respiratory Committee since 1997.
He was the founder and coach for Georgia Hawks, an amateur athletic association and boys’ basketball program for south Georgia and north Florida. Its goal is to provide talented players the opportunity to go to college. More than 50 players who have participated in the program have received athletic scholarships to various schools ranging from junior colleges to major universities such as the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Auburn and Illinois.
Under Dr. Berl’s leadership, players participating in the program were taught life style choices, including discipline, integrity and accountability. Dr. Berl personally covered many of the expenses associated with the team, including registration fees and travel expenses so every deserving player could participate.
Dr. Berl was also praised for the foreign mission trips he leads. In recent years, he has recruited hospital personnel and family members to accompany him on trips to Honduras.
Dr. Berl and his wife, Linda, are members of Heritage Church and have three sons, Scott, Jason and Brian.
The eleven previous Champions include Dr. Patricia June, Nancy Horne, Kathleen Brumley, Alex Shivers, MSW, Carlton Williams, Pat Sylvester, Coy Gregory, Dr. Robert Brown, Barbara James, RN, Dr. Walter Harrison and Sonny Bridges.
