Couple Says Vows In CRMC Hospital Room

A promise is a promise.

When Fritz Stokes and Chivon Barfield of Moultrie agreed on a date for their wedding, they weren’t going to let something like a hospital stay interfere with their ceremony. So, with a little last-minute planning and in the presence of a small group of people they had never seen before, they were united in marriage recently on the fifth floor of Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

“We’d planed to get married today at the courthouse,” Stokes said. “So we wanted to go ahead and do it today.”

So, Stokes’ physician summoned the Rev. Hugh Ward, Colquitt Regional’s chaplain, to the hospital room and in the presence of about a dozen hospital volunteers and staffers the couple was united in marriage.
