Holloway-Cox Named CRMC Nurse of the Year

Kerri Holloway-Cox, RN, a nurse in Colquitt Regional Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit, was named the hospital’s Nurse of the Year for 2010..

Holloway-Cox, who has been a Colquitt Regional nurse for six years, was selected from six finalists by a panel of judges who based their decision on the criteria submitted without knowing the names of the finalists. To be eligible for the annual award, a nurse must work in direct patient care, demonstrate leadership skills and have five or more years of experience with at least three years at Colquitt Regional.

Other finalists were Beckie Nowland, BSN, emergency room; Neva McMullen, RNICU; Robert Thomas, RN, bariatric services, Margie Collins, RN, ICU, and Ashley Lane, RN, maternal/infant services.

The Nurse of the Year award was presented by Kathy Bennett, RN, who was last year’s recipient.

“All of the finalists were qualified to be Nurse of the Year,” she told a group of CRMC employees during the presentation ceremony. “The judges really had a difficult time deciding.”

Holloway’s nomination letter cited her leadership skills, dedication to the profession and involvement with patients.

“Kerri is so involved with her patients and families, months and even years down the line,” the nomination letter stated. “If the patient is readmitted or she sees them she automatically remembers them and can refresh other staff members’ memories regarding the patient. This has happened more than once and shows she is very educated when working with her patients and that she cares.”

Naming of the Nurse of the Year is one of the highlights of National Hospital Week.
