Just over a year ago, Dr. David Adcock was severely injured when he was struck by a vehicle while jogging in Kentucky. On Monday, he returned to his practice, greeted along the way by well-wishers holding signs of encouragement.
Adcock, obstetrician and gynecologist, said it was a wonderful feeling to be back after he suffered brain damage from the accident on June 29, 2009. Although he had visited his office from time to time, Monday was his first time back practicing since June 25, 2009, the Thursday before the accident.
He said he was not sure how it would feel to be seeing patients again, but Adcock said he was happy to be back in this community. He was looking forward to getting back into a routine of providing service, and he enjoys what he does for his patients, he said.
When he saw all of the people lined up along South Main Street to greet and encourage him, Adcock said it was a wonderful blessing to him. He said he is so thankful to be living in this community and to be providing a service to the people of Moultrie and Colquitt County.
“It’s just a great feeling to be in my hometown and to be doing something,” Adcock said.
The staff at Adcock Center for Women’s Health planned the welcome, and they said they were thrilled to see him return. PMA Kim Lovett said people were out Monday morning at the Moultrie Eye Center, the Shell station, Dr. Randy Benner’s dental office and other locations along the way to greet Adcock on his drive back to his office.
Lovett, who has been at the Adcock Center since it opened, said she was so glad to see Adcock return to work, so much so that she got goose bumps when she saw him driving up. His recovery was amazing, and she thanked God for bringing back someone that is like a family member to her.
“We’re a close knit family here,” Lovett said, “and it’s great to have him back.”
Adcock said he is not back on a full-time schedule yet, even though that is where he wants to be. He said he is easing back into a regular routine but will gradually get into a “go all out” schedule.
