Joint Commission
Colquitt Regional Medical Center has again been awarded The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for having met the national standard for healthcare quality and safety.
The renewed accreditation by the Joint Commission follows an unannounced three-day site visit and evaluation by a team of Joint Commission surveyors last September.
The Joint Commission’s mission is the continuous improvement of safety and quality of the nation’s healthcare through voluntary accreditation. The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 15,000 health care organizations and programs in the U.S. and has been the nation’s leading standards-setting body since 1951.
Brooks Sheldon, chairman of the Colquitt County Hospital Authority, says the commission’s Gold Seal of Approval affirms the fact that Colquitt Regional is continuing to improve medical services provided to the community.
“A review of minimum hospital standards in 1918 by The American College of Surgeons (ACS) revealed that only eighty-nine of six hundred ninety-two hospitals met such standards,” Sheldon said. “The ACS embarked on a mission to improve this record in U.S. hospitals. Today the ACS and other associations work together under the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals to assure that high standards of safety and quality of care are being met. The continued accreditation of Joint Commission and the glowing remarks that accompanied this examination give us confidence that CRMC continues to move forward in providing excellent medical services to our community.”
The Joint Commission’s focus is to not only see that hospitals meet certain criteria but to encourage improvement in the organizations it audits.
“Above all, the national standards are intended to stimulate continuous, systematic and organization-wide improvement in an organization’s performance and the outcomes of care,” says Mark Pelletier, R.N., M.S, executive director for The Joint Commission’s Hospital Accreditation and Certification Services. “The community should be proud that Colquitt Regional is focusing on the most challenging goal—to continuously raise quality and safety to higher levels.”
